GCSE Exams 2027 — How Many Days Left

This countdown runs to the first paper of the summer exam series on the common timetable that the JCQ awarding bodies — AQA, OCR, Pearson Edexcel, WJEC/Eduqas and CCEA — share across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. A levels start on the same day.

The series lasts about six weeks, from mid-May into late June. GCSE papers finish a few days before the A-level ones, and a contingency day follows the last paper: it is only used if national disruption stops a paper going ahead, but candidates are expected to stay available until then.

Your own first paper may come later. The countdown targets the first date on the common timetable; your subjects and your exam board decide when you actually sit. The personal timetable your school gives you is the one to trust — especially for tiered subjects, where Foundation and Higher papers can sit in different sessions.

Start times are set nationally: morning sessions begin at 9:00 and afternoon sessions at 13:30.

Grades come in August. Results are released a week after A-level results day, at 08:00 — there is a separate countdown for GCSE results day.
