About WatchIsUp

WatchIsUp is a free countdown website. You can create your own countdown in seconds, without signing up, and see how much time is left before holidays, school breaks, exams, concerts, matches, or game and film releases.

Who runs the site

WatchIsUp is published by Thomas Livernet, a sole trader based in Clermont-Ferrand, France (see the legal notice). The site is available in five languages: French, English, German, Spanish and Dutch.

Where the dates come from

  • Public holidays: computed from the official rules (fixed date, Easter, last Sunday of a month…) and cross-checked against public holiday calendars.
  • School holidays: calendars published by education ministries, through the open OpenHolidays database. A year the ministry has not finished publishing is not shown rather than guessed.
  • Daylight saving time: computed from EU Directive 2000/84/EC (last Sunday of March and October).
  • Exams: no automatic source exists. Dates are entered by hand from each awarding body's official calendar, with the source recorded for every date. Those still uncertain are re-checked every week, and a new date is only accepted automatically when it comes from the awarding body's official website. Until a date is announced, the page marks it as expected.
  • Concerts, matches, releases: data from ticketing platforms and specialist databases (Ticketmaster, SeatGeek, API-Sports, TheSportsDB, TMDB for films, RAWG for video games, Launch Library for rocket launches), updated daily. A postponement announced by the organiser is picked up at the next update.

Countdowns created by visitors

Most countdowns are created by visitors for their own events: a birthday, a wedding, a holiday. We do not verify these dates, which belong to their creator. Only those with a specific title and a real description can appear in search engines; they are reviewed every day, and misleading, duplicate or abandoned ones are removed from search.

Text and artificial intelligence

Event descriptions and blog articles are written with the help of artificial intelligence, from our own data and public sources. Articles say so at the end and are signed "The WatchIsUp team". Dates are never produced by AI: they come from the sources above.

How the site is funded

WatchIsUp is free and funded by advertising. A paid option removes the ads from a countdown. Some links to ticketing sites or shops may be affiliate links.

Report an error

A wrong date, a postponed event, inappropriate content? Every countdown has a "Report this countdown" link, and every message sent through the contact form is read. Corrections are made quickly.
