The world clock shows the live time in 30 major cities across every continent, from Los Angeles to Auckland. The interactive day/night map shows in real time which parts of the globe are lit by the sun and which are in darkness, with the twilight band running between them. The tool is free, works straight in your browser and requires no sign-up.
The sun's position is computed from the solar declination and the equation of time, so the day/night terminator is placed correctly on any date. Displayed times rely on the IANA time zone database: daylight saving transitions are applied automatically for each city. Sunrise and sunset times are computed individually from each city's latitude and longitude.
How to use it
- Read the live time in the city grid, which updates every second. Hover the map to see the time zone under your cursor.
- Use the time slider, or drag the sun directly on the map, to simulate any moment of the day. The date picker lets you switch season and watch the terminator move.
- Click a city to see its local time, its UTC offset and its sunrise and sunset times for the selected date.

The map computes the sun's exact position in real time based on the current date and time. Bright areas are in full daylight, dark areas are in nighttime. The twilight band in between represents dawn or dusk. Use the time slider and date picker to simulate any moment of the day or year.
Yes! The day/night terminator uses the sun's declination angle. In northern summer (June), the North Pole stays in daylight; in winter, the South Pole does. Use the date picker and time slider to simulate any season.

Time zones come from the IANA database, which describes each country's rules. Switching between summer and winter time is therefore applied automatically on the correct date for every city, including in the southern hemisphere. Nothing needs to be set manually on your side.
They use the standard astronomical calculation with the usual atmospheric refraction correction. Accuracy is within about a minute for an observer at sea level. The real time you observe can shift slightly with altitude and local terrain, for example in mountains or a deep valley.
