A-Level Results 2027 — How Many Days Left

A-level results day falls on a Thursday in August, one week before GCSE results. The date follows a rule rather than a number: the awarding bodies set it on the Thursday of the week containing 15 August, which is why it moves from one year to the next.

The countdown above ends at 08:00 UK time, not at midnight. That is when results reach candidates, and the JCQ makes it a hard floor: no school, college or exam centre may release a result before it, by any means. Centres receive the results the day before, under embargo. It is a single worldwide instant — a candidate checking from abroad sees their grades at the same moment as one in Manchester.

One day for England, Wales and Northern Ireland. A levels are graded A* to E, and every awarding body on the common timetable — AQA, OCR, Pearson Edexcel, WJEC/Eduqas and CCEA — releases on the same morning. Scotland runs a separate system, with Highers and Advanced Highers, and its own results day.

The grade is only half of it. UCAS updates applications on results morning, and what most candidates are really waiting for is whether their firm or insurance choice has confirmed them. If neither has, Clearing lists the places still open at other universities — and many are filled within the first days.

What to have ready before 08:00, because the hour after is the busiest:

• Your candidate number and your UCAS login.
• The admissions phone numbers of your firm and insurance choices.
• A shortlist of Clearing courses, in case you need it.

Results can be reviewed. A centre may request a Review of Marking, and priority timescales exist where a university place depends on the outcome.
