GCSE Results 2027 — How Many Days Left

GCSE results day falls on a Thursday in August, and the date is not fixed to a number: the awarding bodies anchor A-level results to the Thursday of the week containing 15 August, and GCSE results to the Thursday after — one week later.

The countdown above ends at 08:00 UK time, not at midnight. That is when results reach candidates, and the JCQ Notice to Centres makes it a hard floor: no school, college or exam centre may release a result before it, by any means, including email or an online portal. It is a single worldwide instant — a candidate checking from Dubai or Lagos sees their grades at the same moment as one in Leeds.

Grades differ across the UK. England has used the 9-1 scale since 2017, where 9 is the highest and a 4 is a standard pass, a 5 a strong pass. Wales and Northern Ireland kept the A*-G scale, so a Welsh B and an English 6 are not the same currency, and neither converts cleanly into the other.

What to have ready before 08:00, because the hour after is the busiest:

• Your centre number and candidate number.
• The UCAS Exam Results Helpline, if you are deciding between routes.
• Your sixth form or college's entry requirements, in writing rather than from memory.

Results can be reviewed. A centre may request a Review of Marking, and there are deadlines — usually within weeks, and priority timescales exist where a university place depends on the outcome.

Nothing is decided in the first ten minutes. The helplines, the clearing routes and the appeal windows all stay open well past results morning.
