JEE Advanced 2027 — How Many Days Left

JEE Advanced is the entrance examination for the twenty-three IITs, and it is taken only by candidates who have already cleared the qualifying rank in JEE Main.

A different institution runs it each year. Responsibility rotates among the IITs — the organising institute sets the papers, which is one reason the style varies noticeably from year to year in a way JEE Main's does not.

Two papers, both compulsory, sat on the same day: Paper 1 in the morning, Paper 2 in the afternoon, three hours each. Skipping either one means the candidate is not considered at all.

The format is deliberately unpredictable. Question types, section structure and marking scheme are not fixed in advance and change between years: single-correct, multiple-correct with partial credit, integer answers, matrix matching, paragraph-linked questions. Preparing for a known pattern is not possible by design — the examination tests whether concepts hold up under an unfamiliar format.

Two attempts, and only in consecutive years. A candidate may sit JEE Advanced at most twice, in two successive years. There is no third chance, whatever the circumstances.

Scale. Of the millions who begin the JEE Main cycle, a few hundred thousand qualify for Advanced, competing for roughly seventeen thousand IIT seats.

The AAT, a separate aptitude test, follows for candidates seeking B.Arch at IIT Kharagpur or Roorkee.
